THE TRUTH ABOUT MANY APPETITE SUPPRESSANTS

Do you think you need a diet pill to lose weight? Here are seven reasons why  the disadvantages of  using any diet pills outweighs the advantages,

1.      There is no guarantee: Dietary supplements do not require approval from the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) before being sold out to the public. With so many companies and products, it is easy for unsafe ingredients to find their way into popular diet pills.

2.      They can increase your risk of heart attack and stroke: The main ingredient in many diet pills are stimulants that have been found to increase the risk for heart attack and stroke. Often these stimulants are prescription level drugs that have been banned from the market; they illegally make their way back into these pills due to poor regulation of dietary supplements.

3.      You can become addicted: Diet pills often contain amphetamines, anti-anxiety drugs, and antidepressants. Not only is this a dangerous mix, but these drug are also highly addictive.

4.      Labels are full of false claims.

5.      They are ineffective: Many diet pills are simply combination of diuretics, which cause water loss.

6.      You won’t change your habits: long term weight loss requires a change in your eating and exercise habits to adopt a healthier lifestyle. Taking a pill as a quick-fix method does not encourage you to gain a better understanding of how foods and exercise affect your weight.
WHY HIGH INTENSITY INTERVAL WORKOUTS MAY BE BETTER THAN LONG HOURS OF WORKING OUT

Short burst of exercise are just as good for you, perhaps better. You don’t need to be working out for longer, but you should probably be working harder – in spurts, at least.

Interval training can help people burn more fat, and increase fitness levels even after just 15 or 20 minutes of exercise. People with type 2 diabetes benefited more from interval walking –their blood sugar was more controlled –compared to people who walked continuously.

‘The return of investment of interval training is fabulous, and it keeps exercise interesting.
Interval training means alternating between different intensities of exercise and allowing time to rest in between bursts of action.

Interval training can be scaled to any starting level of fitness.

Here’s why interval training is thought to work. By changing up exercises in a single period, exercises are improving both their endurance and speed during one exercise session.

Interval training doesn’t have to be difficult, but when it’s taken up a notch –as it is with HIIT and Tabata –there has been even more benefits.

The interval training –regardless of ultimate level of intensity –is encouraging. It shows that mixing it up provides more benefits, and keeps things interesting.

LEMONS ARE NATURES GIFT

A glass of lemon water to start your day could keep the doctor away. Listed below are the health benefits:

1.      A post-workout drink: Lemon is a great neutralizer of that high acidity inside your body after you work out.

2.      Alkalizes the body: Lemon has a great alkalizing effect on the body because ‘minerals in it disassociate to make it alkaline’ as it gets absorbed by the body.

3.      Asthma treatment: Lemon is one of the best natural treatments for asthma that’s because it is rich in vitamin c; it also helps clear out mucus from air vessels.

4.      Balances blood sugar levels: Lemon is rich in a compound called Bioflavonoids which gives this fruit its yellow colour. Lemon naturally stimulates the production of insulin in our body that in turn balances our sugar levels which can help people who have diabetes.

5.      Balances PH levels: A great way of balancing PH levels is drinking water infused with fresh lemon juice to alkaline the body and lowering acidity levels.

6.      Brain food: Lemon is rich in potassium which is considered brain food.

7.      Detoxifies: Lemon helps flush toxins from the colon, gallbladder and liver that otherwise would absorbed by the body. It can be had drinking it first thing in the morning before any meals.

There are other several benefits, which are;
1.      It fights cancer cells
2.      Helps hydrates our lymphatic system
3.      It helps treat constipation
4.      Improves digestive health
5.      It improves eye sight
6.      Improves our immune system
7.      It increases metabolism and promotes weight loss

8.      Keeps our body hydrated… And so much more.

I hear people these  days go on about cutting out  beef from their diets and replacing with the likes of shaki, ponmo and cowleg because they  have no calories. This is False!!

NEWSFLASH : Those cuts we love with our whole hearts are nothing but pure fat. You might as well get a bottle with the equivalent measure  of oil and drink it lol.

Ponmo is the skin of the cow. The skin is made up of layers of fat. We derive absolutely no nutritional value from eating it.  If you must eat this, limit it to a certain number of times per month or cut it completely out of your diet.

Cowleg is 310 kilo calories per 150 grams, that's approximately same amount you can get from 3 medium sized pieces of beef or 2 pieces of chicken.

For weightloss purposes, drop these cuts and watch the felt melt off your body. Your body will thank you later.

If you must have the IYA RISI BUKA SPECIALS you are better of sticking to our plain old regular beef ,liver or kidney.

WATERMELONS AND WHY ITS ONE OF MY FAVOURITES

Watermelon is by far, one of the most powerful, body-healing fruits out there! Listed below are some of the health benefits:

1.       Cardiovascular and bone health: The lycopene in watermelon is especially important for our cardiovascular health and is now being recognized as an important factor in promoting bone health.

2.       Reduces body fat: The citrulline in watermelon has been shown to reduce the accumulation of fat in our fat cells.

3.       Diuretic and kidney support: Watermelon is a natural diuretic which helps increase the flow of urine, but does not strain the kidney (unlike alcohol and caffeine). Watermelon helps the liver process ammonia (waste from protein digestion).

4.       Muscle and nerve support: Rich in potassium, watermelon is a great natural electrolyte and thus helps regulate the action of nerves and muscles In our body. Potassium determines the degree and frequency with which our muscles contract.

5.       Alkaline forming: Eating lots of alkaline-forming foods can help reduce your risk of developing disease and illness caused by a high-acid diet.

6.       Improves eye health: Watermelon is a wonderful source of beta-carotene (that rich red hue of watermelon= beta carotene) which is converted in the body to form Vitamin C.

HERE’S HOW IT AIDS WEIGHT LOSS
Losing weight sometimes means feeling deprived as you avoid sweet desserts. However, the sweet, crisp and juicy watermelon is not only delicious but full of vitamins and minerals. Incorporating watermelon into your weight-loss efforts is a strategy that may help you meet your goals.

NUTRITION: Fruits are part of your weight-loss diet. A cup of diced watermelon has 46 calories and a trace of fat.

HOW TO BOOST YOUR METABOLISM

Boosting metabolism is the holy grail of weight watchers everywhere, but how fast your body burns calories depends on several things. Men tend to burn more calories than women, even while resting. And for most people, metabolism slows steadily after age 40. Listed below are ways of boosting your metabolism;

1.      Build muscles: Your body constantly burns calories, even when you’re doing nothing. This resting metabolic rate is much higher in people with more muscle.

2.      Step up your workout: Aerobic exercise may not build big muscle, but it can boost your metabolism in the hours after a workout. The key is to push yourself

3.      Fuel up water: Your body needs water to process calories. If you are even mildly dehydrated, your metabolism may slow down. To stay hydrated, drink a glass of water.

4.      Should you try energy drink? Some ingredients in energy drinks can give your metabolism a boost. They’re full of caffeine, which increases the amount of energy your body uses.

5.      Snack smart: Eating more often can help you lose weight. When you eat large meals with many hours in between, your metabolism slows down between meals.

6.      Spice up your meal: Spicy foods have natural chemicals that can kick your metabolism into a higher gear.

7.      Power up with protein: Your body burns many more calories digesting protein than it does eating fat or carbohydrates. As part of a balanced diet, replacing some carbs with lean, protein-rich foods can boost metabolism at mealtime.

8.      Sip some black coffee: If you’re a coffee drinker, you probably enjoy the energy and concentration perks. One of coffee’s benefits may be a short-term rise in your metabolic rate.

9.      Recharge with green tea: Drinking a green tea or oolong tea offers the combined benefits of caffeine and catechins, substances shown to boost up the metabolism for a couple of hours.

Avoid crash diets: Crash diets - -those involving eating fewer than 1,200(if you’re a woman) or 1,800(if you’re a man) calories a day- -are bad for anyone hoping to boost their metabolism
REVIEW LA BOUCHERIE NG

LA BOUCHERIE is a premium butchers store selling imported premium quality meats and sea food at Number 8 Furo Ezimora Street, Lekki phase 1 Lagos.

So I also discovered that they have a restaurant and do fine dining, so I went along with my crew.

I had the burger which was divine. Definitely a must have and best of all its just 3,500 for all that yuminess with french fries. It was my cheat day so yeah I am allowed lol.

The Pork ribs were really good too and the fries were so well seasoned with salt and black pepper . I can still taste it.

The lamb chops came with meatballs which was spicy and delicious.

All in all , It was a fantastic experience. The waiters and the owner were amazing with making sure we were satisfied with our orders.

The only downside was that they did not have cocktails. Sunday lunch is never complete without a cocktail for me lol. The owner promised me that hence forth they will include cocktails on the menu. Talk about amazing customer service.  The waitress however made a good non alcoholic Chapman for my daughter. I thought that was so sweet because It was not on the menu but she did it anyway. Bless her heart.

I definitely will be back there again and again.
HOW TO MANAGE SUGAR CRAVINGS LESSON 101

If you’re craving sugar, here are some ways to tame those cravings:
.
1.      Give a little: Eat a bit of what you’re craving, maybe a small cookie or a fun-size candy bar. Enjoying a little of what you love can help you steer clear of feeling denied. Try to stick to a 150-calorie threshold.

2.      Combine foods: If the idea of stopping at a cookie or a baby candy bar seems impossible, you can still fill yourself up and satisfy a sugar craving, too. ‘Try combining a craving food with a healthy one’. For instance; you want chocolate, try dipping a fruit in the chocolate sauce, or even mix almonds with chocolate chips. So, you will satisfy a craving and get healthy nutrients from those good-for-you foods.

3.      Go cold turkey: cutting out all simple sugars works for some people. Some people find that going cold turkey helps their cravings diminish after a few days; others find they may still crave sugar but over time are able to retain their taste buds to be satisfied with less.

4.      Grab some gum: If you want to avoid giving in to a sugar craving completely, try chewing a stick of gum, Research has shown that gum can reduce sugar cravings.

5.      Reach for fruits: keep fruit handy, for when sugar craving hit.

6.      Get up and go: When a sugar craving hits, walk away. ‘Take a walk round the block or do something to change the scenery’. To take your mind off the sugar craving.

7.      Choose quality over quantity: If you need a sugar splurge, pick a wonderful, decadent sugary food’. But keep it small. ‘Savour every bite – slowly’.

8.      Eat regularly: Waiting too long between meals may set you up to choose sugary, fatty foods than cut your hunger. Instead, eating every three to five hours can help keep blood sugar stable and help you ‘avoid irrational eating behaviour’.

6 reasons to avoid drastic weight loss

If you are planning to lose weight, it is best that you opt for a non-drastic weight loss program. Drastic weight loss can lead to certain health problems. Non-drastic weight loss requires patience, but it will give you better results in the long run. Here are six reasons to avoid drastic weight loss:

1. Maintains weight loss: It is not difficult to lose weight, but maintaining a healthy weight can be a daunting risk. If you lose weight fast, it is more likely that you will gain back the weight you have lost.

2.  Safer way to lose weight: losing weight slowly ensures that you will not experience health problems that are associated with weight loss. Non-drastic weight loss makes it easier for your body to cope with changes in diet and lifestyle.

3. Eliminating muscle loss: If you are going on a strict diet to lose weight fast, your body will receive insufficient amounts of calories. When your body does not have enough calories, it will try to obtain energy from other sources, such as muscle cells.

4. Prevents loose skin: Drastic weight loss often leads to the loosening of skin. Although the skin is an elastic organ, it needs time to adjust to the loss of body mass. When you lose too much weight within a short period of time, you may get loose flaps of skin on your arms, stomach or other parts of your body.

5. Healthier hair: Another problem with drastic weight loss is that it can cause hair loss. when you reduce the consumption of food, you will be deprived of some important vitamins, minerals and fatty acid that are required for maintaining healthy hair

6. Reduces fatigue: Most drastic weight loss diets are low in calories and protein, and they do not provide sufficient energy for you to lead an active lifestyle. As such, you may experience fatigue and tiredness throughout the day.

Eleven proven health benefits of apple cider vinegar

For centuries, vinegar has been used for various household and cooking purposes. It is claimed to lead to all sorts of beneficial effects. The benefits are;

1. It cancels out some of the carbs you eat—:The acetic acid found in vinegar interferes with the enzymes in your stomach responsible for digesting starch so you can’t absorb the calories from carbs you’ve eaten.

2. It softens your energy crash after eating lots of sugar or carbs--: Consuming vinegar before a meal can help by slowing the rush of sugar to your blood stream, so your blood sugar spike resembles a hill instead of a mountain and you don’t crash quite as hard.

3. It keeps you full for longer—: In a small but thorough study, people who consumed vinegar before eating a breakfast of white bread felt more satisfied 90 minutes after eating compared to people who only ate the bread.

4. It can help your muscle produce energy more efficiently before a major push—: Endurance athletes sometimes drink diluted vinegar before they carb-load the night before competing because acetic acid helps the muscles turn carbs into energy to fuel intense exercise, according to well-regarded research.

5. It could lower your blood pressure.

6. It cleans fruits and veggies—: The best way to clean produce is with diluted vinegar.

7. It kills bad breath.

8. It deodorizes smelly feet.

9. It relieves jellyfish stings.

10. It balances your body’s pH levels, which could mean better bone breath.

11. It alleviates heart burn-sometimes; Vinegar’s effectiveness depends on the source of your heartburn.
Things you should never do while trying to lose weight

People get so focused on weight loss they are willing to do unproven and potentially dangerous things that can backfire and cause serious health problems.
Here are some dangerous strategies you should avoid when trying to lose weight.

1.    Starvation or very low calorie diets: severely slashing calories may lead to weight loss, but the lost weight includes precious muscles and lower metabolism. Keep it in mind that when you lose weight quickly, you may be at risk to pack it back on—with more fat and less muscles—especially when you’re over 50.

2.    All forms of purging: purging includes making yourself vomit, chewing food and spitting it out, and abusing laxatives.

3.    Supplements that make grand promises: if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is. Even products that claim to be natural aren’t necessarily safe or good for you.

4.    Extreme Exercise: Extreme exercise may make for good reality televisions. But in the real world, it can cause grave problems. It causes severe wear and tear; increases the risk of injury, dehydration, and electrolyte imbalance; and psychologically turns exercise into punishment for eating.

5.    Smoking: we all know that smoking has a countless health risk, yet some people use smoking as a weight loss strategy, because of the nicotine content. Nicotine has shown to be appetite suppressant.

6.    Best weight loss practices: choose a diet that works for your lifestyle. The best diet is the one you can stick with long-term.

How does a good sleep aid weight loss

Research shows that people who sleep less than seven hours per night are heavier, gain more weight over the time and have a harder time losing weight! Missing out on
a good sleep can also lead to weight gain.

These five reasons are your best excuses to hit snooze button and get more sleep.
1.    It helps late-night snacking: The longer you are awake, the more likely you are to consume calories you do not need, which can cause you to gain up to two pounds a week.
2.    It helps you burn more calories: Not only do you have more energy to take on the day after a good night’s sleep, but your body also torches calories, even when you are not working out.
3.    It boosts fat loss: Even if you eat the exact same diet as your friend, if you’re not getting the sleep your body needs, you won’t drop as much fat as them.
4.    It helps you shop for healthier food:  Never go grocery shopping when you’re hungry or exhausted, you tend to shop for more calories in food than well-rested men.
5.    It keeps your brain focused: Your brain functions differently without sleep. The brain activity between sleepy people and people with enough rest are different.

Importantly, unhealthy food activates this region more than healthy food, which means that skipping out on a sleep could make it harder to skip out on a trip to the vending machine.

Still in the spirit of the American Thanksgiving. . .today I am extremely thankful for my son Oluwatobi who was diagnosed blind with deep seated congenital cataracts at 5 months old.

after the surgery at Great Ormond Street hospital for children with his eyes wide open and staring at anything and everything. Today I am thankful for the gift of SIGHT.

Thankful that my intelligent and handsome two year old can see.I am so thankful to God Almighty. Parents trust your instincts! Most important trust God .

Health benefits of eating carbs as part of a balanced diet

There’s a common misconception that carbohydrates make you fat; they don’t. Sure, if eaten in unnecessarily large quantities they could contribute to weight gain, but, then again, so could too much of any other food. Some of the benefits are:

1. Carbs can help boost your mood: Researchers suspect that carbs promote the production of serotonin, a feel-good brain chemical.

2. Carbs can help prevent weight gain-and even promote weight loss: Those who increase their fiber intake generally lost weight. Women who decrease the fiber in their diets gained weight.

3.Carbs are good for your heart: Research suggests that increase your soluble-fiber intake (a type of fiber found in carb-rich foods like oatmeal and beans) by 5 -10 grams each day could result to 5 percent drop in ‘bad’ LDL cholesterol. Similarly, people who eat more whole grains (think brown rice, bulgur, quinoa) also tend to have lower LDL cholesterol and higher ‘good’ HDL cholesterol.

4. Carbs will help you trim your waistline: Swapping refined grains for whole grains may help reduce total body fat and belly fat.

5. Carbs will help you blast fat: Eating a breakfast made with ‘slow-release’ carbohydrates, such as oatmeal or bran cereal, 3 hours before exercise may help burn fat, According to a study from the journal of nutrition.

6. Carbs also help to keep your memory sharp.
Why you should have fruits in the morning...

Fruits have been recognized as a good source of vitamins and minerals, and for their role in preventing vitamin  deficiencies.

Some of the benefits of eating fruits for breakfast are:

1.       Fruits for breakfast is the perfect way to ‘break the overnight fast’ , as it gently wakes the digestive system and metabolism up from a semi slumber, all without  the harsh adrenal jolt of a coffee or fatty meal.

2.       If u eat enough fruits for breakfast you will not require a coffee as the natural fruit sugar keeps the brain sharp and energetic.

3.       Between the hours of 7-11am the body is doing the heaviest detoxification, so eating fruits (especially during this time) ensures healing energy is being used for detoxification rather than being wasted on digesting heavy fatty foods.

4.        Fruits for breakfast promotes nicely fluffy floaters or in other words-large satisfying bowel movements. The fruit fibres clears the colon like a broom, leaving you feeling light, refreshed and ready to go.

5.       People who eat fruit only for breakfast have been shown to be  leaner, healthier and more productive during their day.
